A Study of State-Anxiety of Hemodialysis Patient

Abstract
This study was an attempt to provide data to expected nursing intervention and better nursing care plan for preventing or decreasing their anxiety by measuring the relationship between the anxiety, personality and knowledge.
The study used the HLC Scale and the STAT was carried out in 30 patients who were under hemodialysis in Christian Hospital and Chonnam University Hospital.
The results were as follows:
1) In age distribution of respondents, mean was 40 years old, 73.3% were more than 41 years old.
2) Sex ratio was 2.3: 1, 7.0% were men.
3) The middle school graduate were made up of 33.3% of the respondents.
4) Most of the respondents were married (83.3%).
5) The 50% in economical state were under 2 hundred thousands won/month.
6) The score of state anxiety of hemodialysis patient was 47.3¡¾11.66 and trait anxiety 49.9+9.64.
7) The score of patient in personality 38.8 indicated that the patients were generally in external locus of control in personality.
8) There were no significant relationship between the general characteristics of respondents and the anxiety degree.
9) There were significant relationship between the degree of knowledge and the anxiety score (p<0.025)
10) Regarding the correlation between the score of anxiety and personality, there was significant difference in the external locus of control in personality. The state anxiety was not so high. (r=0.666, p<0.05)
